Alkaline Health

Go back in time a few years and you’ll recall that commercials for stomach drugs used to feature some middle-
aged guy who just ate a whole pizza groaning and holding his stomach saying, “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing.”

But now digestive problems plague people of ALL ages–even infants and young children.

It used to be that a kid would have an occasional stomach ache if he ate too much candy.  Now kids are being diagnosed with acid reflux as young as a few months old.

Let me make one thing very clear:  These kids are NOT “diseased.”  Their bodies are reacting to the highly processed, acid-forming foods and food combinations they’re being fed.

And as parents, every one of us owes it to our children to minimize the impact that the food giants and fast food  monsters have on our children.  If you are over 45, you probably don’t remember having stomach problems daily as a kid… there’s a good reason for that: You didn’t!

Hint:  It’s the food.

Both of my children ate EVERYTHING that was put on the table because that’s what they were fed.  And they LOVED it.  And now they’re older and choose healthy (and tasty) foods.

Did they balk sometimes when they were little?  Sure. It’s what all kids do.  Did they used to beg me to take them to McDonalds like the other kids’ parents?  Absolutely.

But I love them too much.  I know what acidic foods do to the body and I happily said no to their requests.

The drugs given for acid reflux are antacids, H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).

Antacids neutralize the acid in your stomach.  H2 blockers stop the action of histamine (a hormone that tells the stomach to secrete acid).  Proton pump inhibitors shut down the acid “pumps” in the stomach.

But acid digestive enzymes are NEEDED to properly digest proteins.  So when the stomach secretes acid when you eat meat, cheese or other protein, it’s doing its job and should not be interfered with.

But that’s exactly what these drugs do, something that is absolutely horrible for you.  They all stop the stomach from doing what it must do to digest your food. And what happens then? Your digestion is destroyed.

Your stomach senses this and tries to secrete more acid to start digestion up again, but it’s either stopped in its tracks or the acid is neutralized again.

All that acid has to go somewhere, and that somewhere is usually UP.

Voila–you have acid reflux.

Also, your barely digested food ends up sitting in your stomach for 8-10 hours or MORE, fermenting and rotting.  And that leads to gas, stomach aches, constipation or diarrhea, and a tremendous build-up of toxic wastes and bacteria in the colon.  Talk about smell!

Plus any naturally occuring nutrients in your foods are completely destroyed during this process.  So since your body isn’t getting nourished like it needs to be, your hunger signal will be triggered and in just a short time…Bam!  You’ll feel hungry again.

So you want to eat even MORE!  (And that means you become larger and larger too.)

Does that sound like something that’s OK to give a 5 year-old?  Or even a 65 year-old?

At any age, if you want REAL relief from acid reflux (or to prevent it to begin with), do the only thing that makes any sense.  Eat foods and food combinations that digest easily and naturally.  Eat foods that the human body was designed to eat.

We weren’t born with a biological need for jelly sandwiches and top ramen noodles.

And even if that’s what your kids LOVE right now, they will get used to eating what humans have happily eaten for thousands of years (without stomach troubles).  The key to that is YOUR love and consistency (and setting a good example yourself).

I teach you exactly what to do in Great Taste No Pain.

Think about this:  Kids in the 37 countries that have longer life-spans than the United States eat the foods that are unique to their cultures and they’re grateful–they don’t hold out for jelly sandwiches.  And for the most part, they don’t have stomach issues.  That’s why they far outlive Americans and have far fewer medical problems.

Do what’s right for your children, and set them on a good track to be healthy for life.

More than 100 million Americans suffer from digestive disorders, with over $50 billion spent on products (prescription and OTC) to relieve various digestive symptoms. Acid reflux, GERD, diverticulosis, diverticulitis and colitis are all on the rise, and they’re affecting the young as well as the old.  And considering that most of these disorders were practically unheard of 100 years ago (when our meals were simpler and made from real foods), all fingers point to one cause.

But all that can be changed in as quickly as one day.

When you eat the right foods and combinations of foods to keep acidity low (like I teach in Great Taste No Pain), your body responds extremely fast.

And you find that all of a sudden that fire in your chest, constipation, diarrhea,  diverticulitis flare-up, acid rising up in your throat, ulcer burning or inflamed colon has eased up and subsided.

Teresa, who followed an acid alkaline balance diet has had 5 days of energy and vitality being free of diverticulitis, and I’ve had 17 glorious YEARS free of IBS.

Plus hundreds of thousands of others worldwide have been helped by eating this way too.

For less than the cost of one month’s worth of stomach drugs, you can be pain-free for the rest of your life.

I get a LOT of questions about whether certain “acid” foods should be eaten, especially by people with acid reflux, ulcers, hiatal hernia or gastritis.

So it’s clear that there is a very common misunderstanding about what an acid food really is.

The question isn’t whether or not a food is itself acidic – it’s whether or not the food is acid forming to the body.  Two totally different things.

For example:  Lemons are an acid fruit.

That means if you took a fresh lemon into a lab and tested it, it would test acidic.  However, once they’ve been metabolized (digested and absorbed) by the body, lemons are alkaline.

Same goes for tomatoes.

I can’t tell you how many people have told me they can’t eat tomatoes because they’re too acidy.

Wrong.

Like lemons, tomatoes are alkaline to the body.

The acidy feeling that people get from fresh lemon juice or tomatoes is not from the juice or tomato itself–it’s from eating them either along with or after poorly combined foods that create excess acid in the stomach.

The lemon juice or tomatoes take the blame, but really the problem is the disastrous combination of food rotting in your gut as the stomach is secreting acid over and over trying to digest it.

Here are a few more commonly misunderstood foods:

Dairy products:
To this day, I know people who drink milk to soothe or coat their acidy stomach.  That’s like trying to put out a fire by dumping kerosene on it.

Dairy products are some of the most acid forming foods in existence.  Some dairy products may test as alkaline in a lab, but in the body, they’re an acid nightmare.

Coffee:
Whether you take it black, with cream and sugar, in a cappucino or latte, on an empty stomach or full, coffee is highly acid forming.  Anyone telling you otherwise is trying to sell you coffee or owns Starbucks stock.

Whole grain breads:
While they have more nutritious value that white bread, like most breads they are acid forming–not alkaline.  Bad news for the bagel or bialy lovers of the world.

The Great Taste No Pain guide “Foods That Create Acid, Foods That Take It Away” spells out which foods are acid forming in the body and which are alkaline.  It also teaches you the diseases caused by an acid pH, and tells
you what acid/alkaline ratio you should strive for in your foods.

Eating mainly foods that are alkaline-rich and correctly combining your meals to minimize stomach acid will get you
on the road to an alkaline pH, great health (and very likely a longer life).

PS:  Here are two success stories I received:

Hi Sherry,

I have been using your system for the past three weeks,
and I feel great.  No bloatedness or acid and your recipes
are very tasty.  I can’t believe that I can eat almost
anything I like as long as I combine the foods properly.

I have lost 3 kilos (6 1/2 pounds).  Before I couldn’t
lose any, although I am a very healthy eater.  This is
like a miracle.

I’d like to thank you for all your hard work which I have
the privilege in sharing your knowledge.
Good luck for the future and happy eating!!!

Yours sincerely,

Sue Lee

Sherry:

I was online to see if there was a better medication
available for my reflux and all associated problems and
found your website.

I have been trouble-free since the first 24 hours on your
program.  I have been treated for reflux for over 30 years
and this is the first time I am pain-free.

Thank you.

Gloria
