What is my body? On the inside, I wondered. I had read somewhere about the dangers of having an acid body, something I wasn’t sure exactly what it meant. So a little research and I discovered that what I had overheard had more than an inkling of truth. Turns out I needed to be more concerned over having an alkaline body.

The body is naturally alkaline anyway. Your blood, by default has a pH (potential of hydrogen) level of around 7.4 on the scale. It has been suggested that this balance can easily be disrupted by overeating an abundance of acid foods. Acid foods detract from your alkaline body, and therein lies the problem.

Lack of energy, headaches and other common complaints can be blamed upon losing the balance of your alkaline body. The alkalinity helps to keep the blood oxygenated and therefore the immune system healthy and strong to fight off infections.

The main cause for such imbalance comes from the diet, the type and range of foods that are being metabolised on a regular basis. Too much acid and that 7.4pH may not be sustained and can lead to risk of illnesses and infections.

Doing a little housekeeping on yourself to keep your alkaline body as it should be, isn’t too much of an undertaking. Increased respiration rate and taking cold showers can help boost alkaline levels, but for the most part, eating alkaline foods will bring the overall health benefits as well as taking care of your natural alkaline levels. Vegetables and fruits, alkaline foods which are the main source of an alkalizing diet need to play a bigger part in your eating plans.

An alkaline food chart will point you in the right direction, but the signposts are clear. Less of the acid rich foods like meats, dairy and sweets, more of the goodness of vegetables and fruit. The quick and easy shortcut to a healthy alkaline body.
